Intelligence should be held, not rented.

In medieval law, an allod was land held absolutely: free of any lord, free of any duty owed upward, free of the condition that it could be revoked. You did not hold it by the grace of a superior. You simply held it. We believe intelligence deserves the same status, including the full context it needs to run. Not licensed. Not subscribed to. Held.

The Allodial Foundation is a nonprofit accelerating the owned intelligence movement. We steward Eddy, the open-source organizational AI platform, MIT licensed, with the public repository shipping in the coming weeks. We fund research into AI that is verifiably loyal to its users. And we back education that preserves the habits of independent thought in an age of machines that will happily think for you.

Our first research program is underway now. The Fiduciary Overlay is a transparency layer that measures how AI systems actually behave on real interactions, from sycophancy to fabricated actions, and reports to the user alone. No lab can credibly grade itself; a nonprofit with no stake in the answer can. It is a six-month build funded by the Future of Life Foundation, with first results in 2027.

A word on how this is built. The Foundation has a sister company, A3, which our founders run and which deploys and operates Eddy for a small number of organizations a year. A3's software is contributed here, to the commons; a share of A3's revenue funds the Foundation's mission; and every deployment makes the open stack better for everyone who clones it. There is no separate "corporate strategy" and "charitable giving." The structure is the argument.

We're Blake Pierson and Doug Wormhoudt. Blake previously co-founded and ran Fathom, the nonprofit whose IVO framework for independent AI oversight is now live legislation in multiple states, active at the federal level, and carries broad buy-in across the AI labs. Doug is a serial founder and engineer, three decades in, and the architect of Eddy.
